Brian Gates

Brian Gates serves as Professor of Pharmacotherapy in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Washington State University's College of Pharmacy, concurrently working as a consultant pharmacist for the Providence Visiting Nurse Association of Spokane (PVNA) where he provides home-based medication management services.

Education:

• Doctor of Pharmacy, Washington State University
• 2-year fellowship in geriatrics through WSU and Providence Visiting Nurse Association of Spokane
• 1-year residency in geriatrics, Providence Visiting Nurse Association of Spokane

Research Interests: Dr. Gates specializes in geriatric pharmacotherapy with emphasis on medication optimization for elderly patients in homecare settings. His work integrates clinical practice with research through WSU's geriatrics team to address polypharmacy challenges and improve therapeutic outcomes for aging populations via interdisciplinary collaboration.

• Teacher of the Year for WSU PY4 students (2014)
• Teacher of the Year for WSU PY4 students (2015)
• Young Pharmacist of the Year from Washington State Pharmacy Association (2003)

Advising and Professional Service: Dr. Gates continuously precepts APPE students at PVNA while instructing geriatrics content across all PharmD program phases, including as course director for Special Populations. His leadership includes presidency of the Spokane Pharmacy Association (2003) and Washington State Chapter of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, plus editorial contributions to Advances in Pharmacy (2002-2005).

Research Team: He actively collaborates with WSU's geriatrics research consortium and PVNA's interdisciplinary clinical team to bridge academic research with community-based elderly care.
