Brian E.J. Rose is an Associate Professor in the Department of Atmospheric & Environmental Sciences at the University at Albany. His research focuses on global-scale climate dynamics, heat transport mechanisms, and the role of sea ice in climate systems. He holds a PhD from MIT (2010) and MSc/BSc from McGill University.
Education:
- PhD in Climate Physics and Chemistry, MIT, 2010
- MSc in Atmospheric Science, McGill University, 2002
- BSc in Atmospheric Science, McGill University, 1999
Research: Brian explores fundamental climate dynamics using idealized models and data analysis. Key interests include energy transport in polar regions, paleoclimate variability, and feedback mechanisms. His work emphasizes simplification to understand complex systems.
Awards:
- NSF CAREER Award
- Tenure at University at Albany (2019)
Advising & Grants: Advised students including PhD candidates Christopher Cardinale and Cameron Rencurrel. Funded by NSF grants for climate modeling research. Active in open-source software development (climlab).
Labs/Teams: Leads the Climate Dynamics and Modeling group at UAlbany, fostering interdisciplinary work in climate science and education.
