Dr. Brian E. Power is a Professor at Brock University's Department of Music within the Faculty of Humanities. He currently serves as Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Academic, and has previously held roles such as Associate Dean (2012–2018) and Chair of the Department of Music (2005–2011). His expertise spans medieval and Renaissance music, performance-practice analysis, and manuscript studies. Dr. Power co-edited The Sounds and Sights of Performance in Early Music (2009) and is preparing a scholarly edition of the Trent Codex 93. He actively performs as a choral tenor and soloist, notably winning first place in the 2017 CBC/Choral Canada Competition with Pax Christi Chorale.
Education: PhD, MA, MusBac (University of Toronto), ATCL (Trinity College, London). Teaching focuses include medieval/Renaissance music history, Canadian music, and music-liturgy intersections. He contributes to interdisciplinary programs like the MA in Comparative Literatures and Arts and the PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities. Affiliated with the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and the Centre for Canadian Studies.
Performance highlights include the North American premiere of Parry’s Judith (2015), a UK tour (2016), and the Canadian premiere of Elgar’s The Apostles (2017). Professional service includes roles with the Canadian University Music Society and Intersections: Canadian Journal of Music.
