معرفی
Brian Downes, Ph.D. is a Professor of Biology at Saint Louis University's College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the ubiquitin system and membrane-anchored ubiquitin-fold proteins (MUBs), which regulate protein modification and degradation at the plasma membrane. His work bridges plant and human systems to uncover conserved mechanisms in eukaryotic biology, with applications in agriculture and medicine.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Biology from Purdue University
Research Interests:
- Ubiquitin system specificity and MUB protein function
- Role of prenylated MUBs in targeting E2 enzymes to plasma membranes
- Functional conservation of MUB systems across Arabidopsis thaliana and humans
- Discovery of MUB-interacting proteins and their structural dynamics
Lab Activities: The Downes Lab integrates bioinformatics, biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetics. Projects include identifying MUB interactors, studying MUB-protein complex structures, and evaluating functional conservation. Opportunities are available for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate researchers.
