Brian Dodwell is the Executive Director of the Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences. He has been instrumental in counterterrorism research and education since joining CTC in 2010, serving as Deputy Director (2014-2018) and Director (2018-2021) before assuming his current role in 2021.
Mr. Dodwell's research focuses on Islamic State affiliates, foreign fighters, jihadi terrorism in the United States, and homeland security challenges. He teaches courses on terrorism, counterterrorism, and homeland security, and frequently collaborates with operational units and intelligence/law enforcement agencies.
His publications analyze terror networks, foreign fighter dynamics, and counterterrorism strategies, often in collaboration with colleagues like Paul Cruickshank and Don Rassler. Articles span from 2011 to 2024, covering topics such as Islamic State downsizing, interagency counterterrorism collaboration, and regional security threats.
