Brian C. Leutholtz, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation at Baylor University, where he contributes to teaching, research, and academic leadership in clinical exercise science. He is a recognized expert in exercise prescription and chronic disease management.

Dr. Leutholtz is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM) and holds the highest certification as a Clinical Program Director. His co-authored book, Exercise Prescription: A Case Study Approach to the ACSM Guidelines, significantly advanced the field by introducing the VO2 Reserve concept, now adopted by ACSM. This work reflects a major trend in refining exercise guidelines through evidence-based case studies and physiological modeling.

Dr. Leutholtz has extensive professional experience, including founding and directing the Therapeutic Exercise Program for Chronic Disease (TEMPO) at Old Dominion University and serving as a consultant for managed care teams in Virginia Beach. He received his PhD from Michigan State University in 1992 after completing a four-year doctoral fellowship at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His academic journey reflects a deep integration of clinical practice and scholarly research.
He is affiliated with the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation at Baylor University, located in Marrs McLean Gymnasium. His work continues to influence both academic curricula and clinical practice in exercise science.
