Brian Boyd is a Lecturer III in the Department of English & Drama at the University of Maine at Augusta. He teaches literature, theater, creative writing, and composition across multiple locations including the Rockland Center, Maine State Prison, and online platforms. With over 20 years of experience in the University of Maine system, Boyd holds an M.A. in English & American Literature (Creative Writing specialization) from New York University (1991) and a B.A. in English & American Literature & Language from Harvard College (1983).
His professional interests span creative writing, theater education, and innovative pedagogical methods involving games and hands-on activities. Boyd is also an accomplished writer, contributing short stories, poems, and art journalism to publications like The New Yorker. He co-founded and directs the Acadia Center for English Immersion, an international English language school.
Boyd has lived and worked in multiple U.S. states and internationally in France and Denmark, bringing diverse cultural perspectives to his teaching. His courses emphasize imaginative exploration and critical engagement with both classic and contemporary literary and theatrical works.
