Brett Watson is an Associate Professor of Applied and Natural Resource Economics at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), affiliated with the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER). His work examines natural resource wealth creation, management, and distribution, with a focus on econometric analysis of resource policy, community engagement, and extractive firm behavior.
- Ph.D. and M.S. in Mineral and Energy Economics from Colorado School of Mines
- BBA in Economics from Texas State University
Watson previously worked as a research associate at the Department of Energy’s Critical Materials Institute, where he studied supply chains for rare materials used in clean energy technologies.
His research integrates quantitative methods with policy analysis to address challenges in resource-dependent economies, particularly in Alaskan contexts.
At UAA, he is embedded within the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER), a hub for interdisciplinary policy-oriented studies.
