Brett Todd

Dr. Brett Todd is a Casual Academic in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology Sydney. He holds a PhD from UNSW Sydney (awarded 2015), an MA in International Studies from UTS, and an undergraduate degree in Law, Government, and Economics from the University of Sydney. His research focuses on language policy, minority rights, indigenous rights, and secession movements, with a particular emphasis on cultural studies and the intersection of law and society. He has conducted extensive fieldwork in Colombia and has contributed to human rights initiatives through internships with organizations like UNHCR and CELS in Argentina. Currently, he is converting his doctoral thesis into a book with Springer, expected to publish in late 2017 or early 2018.

Teaching roles include coordinating courses such as Global Governance, International Intensive Electives, and Contemporary Spain (2017). He has also taught modules on Latin America, Canada (Quebec), and in-country studies in Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, France, and Japan. His pedagogical focus spans international studies and cross-cultural legal frameworks.

Dr. Todd’s research integrates interdisciplinary perspectives, analyzing how legal frameworks intersect with cultural preservation and post-colonial dynamics. His publications address topics like language revitalization in Taiwan and restorative justice for linguistic damages caused by colonialism.
