معرفی
Professor Brett Nixon is a leading academic in reproductive and life sciences at the University of Newcastle. He holds roles as Professor and Deputy Head of the School of Environmental and Life Sciences, specializing in male fertility, sperm dysfunction, and wildlife conservation. His research bridges human and animal reproduction, focusing on mechanisms of sperm dysfunction and applications in assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs).
Education: PhD (University of Newcastle, 1999), BSc (Hons) and BSc (University of Newcastle).
Research Interests: Sperm-egg recognition proteins, male infertility, ARTs in endangered species (e.g., crocodiles, platypus), and proteomic analysis of reproductive cells. His work integrates evolutionary biology with clinical applications, aiming to improve fertility treatment and conservation efforts.
Publications & Grants: Over 194 journal articles, including seminal works on sperm proteomics and reproductive toxicology. He has secured grants for projects like crocodile ART development and diffuse midline glioma treatment research. Notably, his team investigates proteins critical for sperm function and fertility.
Awards: ARC Future Fellow (2015), Teaching Excellence awards (2013), and recognition for supervising students who won multiple national/international prizes (e.g., Lorne Protein Poster Prize, SRB oral awards).
Collaborations: Partnerships with Taronga Zoo for wildlife conservation, Emory University for sperm biology, and clinical IVF centers for translational research. He also serves on editorial boards (e.g., Molecular Human Reproduction).
Lab/Teams: Directs a lab focused on gamete biology and proteomics, with projects on environmental impacts on fertility and male reproductive tract functions.
