Brent Wise

Brent Wise, MD is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He specializes in Orthopaedic Traumatology with clinical expertise in upper and lower extremity fractures, pelvic and acetabular surgery, limb salvage, and the treatment of fracture non-union, malunion, and osteomyelitis.

Dr. Wise's research focuses on the prevention of infection, nonunion, and other post-operative complications in orthopaedic trauma. His work spans microbial associations in fracture-related infections, hyperglycemia as a risk factor for surgical site infections, and optimization of fracture fixation techniques to minimize complications. His research demonstrates a consistent emphasis on improving outcomes through understanding and preventing post-operative complications in orthopaedic trauma patients.

His notable awards include the AO Trauma North America Fellows Research Grant, induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society, and the College of Medicine Award for Academic Excellence, Professionalism, and Humanism. Dr. Wise maintains active membership in professional organizations including the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and AO Trauma North America, where he serves as faculty.

With a strong interest in resident education, Dr. Wise has conducted research on cost-effective care teaching in orthopaedic surgery residency programs. His clinical and academic work demonstrates a commitment to both patient care excellence and the advancement of orthopaedic trauma knowledge and education.
