Brent Masel, MD is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). His clinical and research focus centers on neurorehabilitation and the endocrine/metabolic consequences of traumatic brain injury (TBI). He completed his medical training and neurology residency at UTMB.
Research interests include pituitary dysfunction after brain injury, hypoaminoacidemia in TBI patients, and neuroendocrine axis alterations post-trauma. He has pioneered studies on growth hormone axis dysfunction and gut microbiome changes in TBI patients.
Key awards include the 2006 Clinical Innovations Award (North American Brain Injury Association), 2013 Sheldon Berrol Award (Brain Injury Association of America), and 2012 Physician of the Year (Texas Rehabilitation Association).
He serves as a national medical advisor for the Brain Injury Association of America and is affiliated with the North American Brain Injury Society. His work emphasizes translating endocrine discoveries into clinical neurorehabilitation strategies.
