He previously served as Department Chair and Dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies for nine years, now known as the Undergraduate College.
His research spans the interdisciplinary design and evolution of complex molecular systems at the chemistry-biology interface, with core emphases on vaccines/therapeutics development and advanced materials science. Affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Graduate Programs and Texas Materials Institute, his work leverages molecular folding and assembly principles to pioneer sustainable chemical synthesis and next-generation biomedical solutions.
Dr. Iverson is a Fellow of the University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers, reflecting his national recognition in pedagogy. He serves on the Board of Directors for Research Corporation for Science Advancement (the oldest foundation supporting academic science) and Kesem (a national network with 130 chapters aiding children of cancer patients).
Award-winning educator Dr. Iverson teaches undergraduate Organic Chemistry and the Signature Course "The Science of Happiness," while co-authoring the ninth edition of a leading Organic Chemistry textbook (Cengage). His laboratory continues 30+ years of innovation in converting nucleic acid sequences into functional protein structures for technological breakthroughs.
