Professor Brendon McNiven is an Enterprise Professor in Architectural Engineering at the University of Melbourne's Melbourne School of Design (MSD), where he leads the Architectural Engineering Master's program. With over three decades of construction industry experience, he transitioned to academia to focus on architectural engineering research. His industry roles included leadership at Arup on iconic projects like the Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands, and the Melbourne Star.
Specializing in architectural buildings, lightweight structures, and digital design processes, he holds chartered engineer status, is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, and a member of the UK’s Institution of Structural Engineers. His research interests span architectural innovation, urban design heritage preservation, and disaster recovery strategies. Notable contributions include post-tsunami housing reconstruction studies in Indonesia and structural design advancements for large-scale observation wheels.
