Paulo Vaz Serra

Dr. Paulo Vaz Serra is a Senior Lecturer in Construction Management at the Melbourne School of Design, part of the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. With over two decades of industry experience as a senior construction and project manager, he bridges academic research with practical construction challenges.

His research focuses on knowledge management in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector, communication processes, and construction procurement. Notably, he led a major European-funded knowledge management project involving multiple stakeholders, recognized through awards and international presentations. His work also explores sustainable construction practices, project risk mitigation, and peer assessment innovations in education.

Paulo holds a Master’s in Construction and a PhD in Civil Engineering. He has taught at institutions like FUNDEC (Portugal) and the Portuguese Institute of Science and Technology of Leiria, emphasizing construction planning, safety, and environmental systems. Professionally, he is a Senior Member of the Portuguese Engineers Organization and a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE).
