Dr. Brendon Gurd is a Professor at Queen's University, School of Kinesiology and Health Studies. His research focuses on understanding how exercise intensity and types enhance mitochondrial function and their implications for health and disease. He holds a PhD from the University of Western Ontario, with additional degrees in Kinesiology and Physical Education. His work includes three core goals: quantifying exercise intensities across populations, examining training effects on fitness and mitochondrial function, and elucidating molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial biogenesis, particularly involving PGC-1α regulation.
Dr. Gurd leads the Queen's Muscle Physiology Lab, exploring exercise-induced adaptations and interventions to optimize health outcomes. His studies emphasize individual variability in responses to exercise and the molecular underpinnings of training adaptations. He actively seeks graduate students for research in these areas.
