Brendan Stewart is an Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph. He specializes in cultural landscapes, heritage conservation, and participatory design, blending academic research with professional practice. His work emphasizes adaptive re-use of public spaces and community engagement, particularly through initiatives like plazaPOPS.
Education: Bachelors of Landscape Architecture (2004, University of Guelph), Master of Landscape Architecture (2009, University of California, Berkeley). He also studied at Edinburgh College of Art (2003).
Research focuses on heritage conservation planning, service learning, and tactical urbanism. He co-leads plazaPOPS, a not-for-profit transforming suburban parking lots into community spaces, funded by SSHRC and the City of Toronto. His work addresses post-pandemic urban challenges and equitable placemaking.
