Brendan Smyth

Dr Brendan Smyth is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney, and a Staff Specialist Nephrologist at St George Hospital. He holds a BMedSci(Hons), MBBS(Hons), and PhD from Sydney Medical School. His research focuses on improving outcomes for kidney failure patients through clinical trials, symptom management, and environmental sustainability in healthcare. Key projects include the RESOLVE trial (investigating dialysate sodium effects) and the SEISMIC program (symptom management strategies).

Dr Smyth leads the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) Clinical Trials Toolkit and has been an ISN Emerging Leader (2022-23). He collaborates internationally with institutions like University of Würzburg and University College London. His work addresses chronic kidney disease progression, health service environmental impacts, and global research equity, particularly in low-resource settings.
