Brendan Shay Basham (Diné) is a Visiting Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno’s Creative Writing MFA Program. He is a writer, artist, and educator born in Alaska and raised in northern Arizona, with a BA in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Arts.

His work explores themes rooted in Indigenous history, magical realism, and the psychological impact of trauma and grief. His debut novel, Swim Home to the Vanished, interweaves Diné creation stories and colonial trauma with a haunting narrative of personal loss and redemption.
