Jake Skeets is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Oklahoma. Born Diné (Navajo) from Vanderwagen, New Mexico, he holds dual BA degrees in English and Native American Studies from the University of New Mexico (2014) and an MFA in Poetry from the Institute of American Indian Arts (2018). He currently serves as the 3rd Navajo Nation Poet Laureate.
His research focuses on Diné poetics and aesthetics, ecopoetics, Indigenous queer theories, and critical Indigenous feminisms. His award-winning poetry collection Eyes Bottle Dark with a Mouthful of Flowers has garnered prestigious honors including the National Poetry Series, American Book Award, and Kate Tufts Discovery Award. He has been a Mellon Fellow (2020–2021) and Grisham Writer in Residence (2023–2024).
