Bree Blakeman is a Research Fellow at the Australian National University (ANU), affiliated with the Centre for Indigenous Policy Research and the School of Digital Humanities Research. Her primary focus is on Yolngu culture and languages, particularly in northeast Arnhem Land, where she has conducted research since 2007. She explores emotion concepts, exchange theory, and value systems within Indigenous Australian contexts.
Blakeman has contributed to teaching ANTH2005/ANTH6005: Traditional Australian Indigenous Cultures, Societies and Environment as a course coordinator. She previously authored the blog Footnotes and Fieldnotes, addressing anthropological themes. Her research also encompasses property relations, land tenure, and anarchist political philosophy.
She has been involved in several projects, including the Laynhapuy Homelands Association: Housing and Infrastructure Review (2023–2024) and initiatives focused on improving on-country education for First Nations students (2024–2026). Her work bridges theoretical anthropology with applied research in Indigenous policy and community development.
