Brandy Monk-Payton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies and affiliated faculty in African & African American Studies at Fordham University. She holds a Ph.D. in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University, an MA in Media, Culture, and Communication from New York University, and a BA in Film and Media Studies from Swarthmore College.

Her research focuses on Black media representation, cultural production, and celebrity dynamics across television, film, and digital platforms. She explores affective authenticity, racial politics, and gendered media expression through works like her analysis of Atlanta and Red Table Talk.
Recent publications include work on authoritarian populism in celebrity culture, Kanye West’s media persona, and the racial politics of The Bachelor. She has received prestigious fellowships including the Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowship and Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Monk-Payton teaches courses such as Television Theory and Criticism, Ethics of Reality TV, and Race, Gender, and Digital Media. She is currently working on two book projects: one on television and Black Lives Matter, and another on contemporary Black celebrity culture.
