Brandy Daniels is a Lecturer and former Postdoctoral Fellow affiliated with the University of Virginia's Department of Religious Studies, specifically within the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She is part of the Luce Project on 'Religion and its Publics.' Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Theological Studies from Vanderbilt University, an M.A. in Humanities from Duke University, an M.Div. from Duke, and a B.A. from Azusa Pacific University.
Her research focuses on theological anthropology, exploring intersections of feminist and queer theories with constructive theologies. She examines how Christian identity interacts with gender and sexual identities, challenging existing frameworks through postliberal methodology and queer temporal theory. Her work critiques theological accounts that limit difference and reimagines faithful Christian community.
Brandy has published on topics such as Bonhoeffer and Foucault’s approaches to racial identity, poststructuralism in liberation theology, and Eastern Orthodox theology alongside Lacanian theory. She contributes to the Women in Theology blog and serves on the steering committee for the Queer Studies in Religion section of the American Academy of Religion (AAR).
