Evans' research centers on the complex intersections of Black theology, queer theory, and Christian doctrine. His work critically engages with how theological concepts can be reimagined to address the experiences of marginalized communities, particularly Black LGBTQ+ individuals within Christian contexts. His scholarship demonstrates a commitment to both rigorous theological analysis and social justice concerns, bridging academic theology with practical ethical considerations.
Analysis of Evans' publications reveals a consistent focus on liberationist theological frameworks that challenge traditional boundaries while maintaining theological coherence. His work prominently features Christological inquiry through the lens of Black queer experience, gender-inclusive language debates in Trinitarian theology, and ecclesiological reflections on the Black church tradition. A recurring theme across his scholarship is the tension between orthodox theological commitments and liberative ethical imperatives, particularly as they relate to racial and sexual identity.
Evans actively contributes to contemporary theological discourse through book reviews and published essays that engage with prominent theological works. His scholarship reflects deep engagement with both historical theological traditions and contemporary social concerns, positioning him as a significant voice in constructive theology that bridges multiple disciplinary perspectives.
