Brandon L Wanless serves as Assistant Professor of Dogmatic Theology at The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity, part of the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. He holds a Ph.D. from Ave Maria University with a dissertation focused on the Trinitarian theology of St. Thomas Aquinas, building upon his earlier Master's work at the University of St. Thomas.
His research centers on Thomistic metaphysics and Trinitarian theology, with particular expertise in how Aquinas navigates between Greek and Latin theological traditions. Wanless has demonstrated consistent scholarly output examining the relationship between Aquinas's thought and patristic sources, especially the Cappadocian Fathers and John of Damascus. His work frequently addresses the complex question of whether the unity of the Trinity can be appropriately described using the analogy of a species with three individuals.
Wanless's publications reveal an evolving scholarly trajectory from his Master's thesis on divine essence (2015) through doctoral work (2022) to recent peer-reviewed articles connecting Aquinas with John Paul II's theology (2023). His research demonstrates both historical depth and contemporary relevance, particularly in moral theology and sacramental understanding.
As an active scholar, Wanless has organized sessions for the American Catholic Philosophical Association, including the 2021 'Sacra Doctrina Project' satellite session on 'Essence and Attributes of God.' His academic profile indicates regular conference participation and scholarly engagement with contemporary theological questions while maintaining deep roots in medieval theology and philosophy.
