معرفی
Brandon Heung is an Associate Professor of Soil Science and Pedometrics at the Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University. He leads the Soil-Landscapes Analysis & Modelling Lab, focusing on digital soil mapping, spatial modeling, and machine learning applications in environmental science. His research integrates soil science, geospatial technologies, and big data analytics to address climate change mitigation, soil resource management, and precision agriculture.
Research interests include pedometrics (high-resolution soil mapping), geospatial analysis, machine learning for soil health assessment, and carbon sequestration. He collaborates widely, securing funding from NSERC, CFI, and provincial agencies. Teaching responsibilities include courses such as ENVA 3005 (GIS), AGRI 5700 (Communication Skills), and AGRI 6800 (Advanced Graduate Seminar).
He holds adjunct status at Simon Fraser University (Geography) and holds editorial roles at Geoderma and Canadian Journal of Soil Science. Major funders include the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Canadian Foundation for Innovation, and provincial agriculture departments.
Current lab members include postdoctoral fellows (e.g., Dr. Kingsley John on soil carbon sequestration) and PhD students (e.g., Travis Pennell on soil biodiversity mapping in Atlantic Canada). Past projects include forest resource inventory frameworks and peat thickness mapping in Quebec.
