Brandon Bourgeois serves as Assistant Professor of Classics in the Department of Classics at the University of Southern California's Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, where he specializes in Roman political traditions from Republic to Byzantine eras.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Classics (Greek and Latin), The Ohio State University, 2018
- A.B. in Classics, The University of Chicago, 2008
Research centers on Roman political history, institutional evolution, and rhetorical legitimation strategies in imperial accessions, with secondary focus on Mediterranean religions and African diaspora reception of classical antiquity. His current book project analyzes electoral base shifts in Roman emperorship and non-coercive consent mechanisms.
He founded "The Hype4Homer Project," translating Greek epic poetry into Hip Hop/R&B audiobooks and performances, exemplified by "The Trilliad"—the first full Hip Hop adaptation of Homer's Iliad—aiming to democratize classical engagement through contemporary cultural idioms.
