Dr. Bram Vanhoutte is an Honorary Research Fellow in Sociology at the University of Manchester. He holds a Master’s in Sociology and Economics, and a PhD in Social Sciences. His research bridges psychological, sociological, and medical perspectives on ageing, focusing on wellbeing, life course influences, and resilience. He utilizes major longitudinal studies like the English Longitudinal Study on Ageing (ELSA) and the US Health and Retirement Study (HRS).
Research interests center on ageing, life course dynamics, wellbeing, health inequalities, and migration. His work examines how material and life course resources foster successful ageing amid adversity.
Awards include the LIVES Best Paper Award for Early Scholars 2018. His publications explore social inequality in ageing, metabolic dysregulation in frailty, and genome-wide associations with depression.
Dr. Vanhoutte leads projects on ageing resilience and collaborates with the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Ageing.
