Borja Blanco

Borja Blanco is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Cambridge Babylab within the Department of Psychology, School of the Biological Sciences at the University of Cambridge. Previously, he completed his PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL).

Dr. Blanco specializes in signal processing and data analysis for infant neuroimaging techniques, particularly fNIRS and high-density diffuse optical tomography (HD-DOT). His research investigates resting-state brain activity, language processing in bilingual infant populations, and the impact of sleep stages on neural responses. He conducts cross-cultural studies comparing infant cohorts in the UK and The Gambia to examine environmental and linguistic influences on early brain development.

His publication record reveals a methodological emphasis on advancing wearable HD-DOT systems for naturalistic infant imaging, with recurring themes in functional connectivity analysis, longitudinal developmental tracking, and cross-paradigm validation of neuroimaging approaches. Recent work focuses on translating these techniques to field settings in resource-limited environments.

Borja actively collaborates with the neoLAB research group at Cambridge and previously contributed to DOT-HUB projects. His work integrates cot-side imaging during sleep with social stimulus paradigms to map developmental trajectories of cortical specialization from neonatal stages through early childhood.
