Boris M. Mandic

Boris M. Mandic is a Senior Research Associate at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade. With over 20 years of academic service since 2004, he has progressed from Assistant Trainee to his current position. His research spans metabolomics of mental illness, natural product chemistry, and analytical chemistry, with significant contributions to psychiatric biomarker discovery.

Dr. Mandic's research focuses on metabolomic profiling of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder using NMR and LC-MS techniques, alongside investigating bioactive natural compounds from plant sources. His work bridges analytical chemistry with psychiatric diagnostics and natural product drug discovery, particularly examining lipidomic fingerprints and DNA-protective compounds. Recent publications demonstrate his leadership in Serbian cohort studies for psychiatric disorders and characterization of bioactive plant metabolites.

His research is predominantly funded by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), with current projects including "Metabolomic fingerprints of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder" (2021-2024) as principal investigator. Previous projects focused on metabolomics for chemical exposure mapping and development of analytical methods for OPCW proficiency testing.
