Boris Baltes is a Professor of Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Wayne State University (WSU), serving concurrently as Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Academic Personnel. He holds a Ph.D. in I/O Psychology from Northern Illinois University (1998) and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1992). His research focuses on workplace stereotypes, performance appraisal biases, aging in the workforce, and work-family conflict. Key projects include NSF-funded initiatives like the $1.2M ‘STEM Intersectional Equity in Departments’ (SIEDS) and the $992K ‘WSU GEARS’ gender equity program. Baltes has secured over $2.8M in grants since 2020.
His work emphasizes practical interventions to reduce bias and improve equity, such as structured recall techniques to mitigate stereotypes in evaluations. Major publications include Work Across the Lifespan (2019, Elsevier) and articles in Journal of Applied Psychology and Work, Aging, and Retirement.
