Bongoh Kye is a Professor of Sociology at Kookmin University in Seoul, Korea. His academic career includes a postdoctoral fellowship at the Cornell Population Center, Cornell University, following completion of his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California - Los Angeles.
Professor Kye's research focuses on the intersection of population dynamics and social inequality, with particular expertise in demography, social stratification, and quantitative methods. His work examines how demographic patterns relate to the reproduction of social stratification across generations in South Korean society. Key research areas include intergenerational transmission of educational attainment, fertility patterns, population aging, and family structures.
His recent publications (2020-2023) have addressed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on fertility responses and social trust in South Korea, continuing his long-standing focus on Korean demographic trends. Professor Kye has established himself as a leading scholar in Korean demography through consistent publication in top-tier demographic journals.
Professor Kye maintains an active research program with publications spanning from 2011 to the present, demonstrating sustained scholarly productivity. His research combines rigorous quantitative methods with substantive insights into Korean society's demographic transformations.
