Prof. Bodo Fiedler is the Head of the Institute of Polymers and Composites at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) since 2013. He holds a doctoral degree (1998) and post-doctoral habilitation (2008) in mechanical engineering, focusing on fiber-reinforced composites. His career spans academia and industry, including roles as head of production technology at RUAG Aerospace and executive board member at Bionic Composite Technologies AG.
Education: Studied mechanical engineering at TUHH, with a thesis on crack growth in metal fiber-reinforced ceramics. Conducted post-doctoral research at Kyoto University and the Weizmann Institute. Research Interests: Focuses on composite materials, polymer degradation, structural health monitoring, and sustainable materials. Leads projects on thermoset aging, bio-based composites, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
Current Projects: Includes DFG-funded initiatives on hydrogen transport systems (HY-FIT LH2), bioelectrochemical reactors (BioElectroFlow), and functional electrode structures (CRC 1615). Collaborates on EU-funded projects involving composites for aerospace and industrial applications.
Expertise: Editor of CEAS Aeronautical Journal, member of ESCM, and advisor to DFG, BMBF, and international journals. Over 200 publications in materials science, composites, and engineering.
