Bobby Thomas, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the College of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina. His academic background includes a Master’s in Zoology from Banaras Hindu University, India, and a PhD in Neuroscience from the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata. He completed postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University and held prior faculty positions at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and the Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Thomas’s research focuses on molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders, particularly mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress pathways in Parkinson’s disease. His work explores Nrf2 signaling, Bach1 regulation, and neuroprotective therapies. Notable contributions include studies on parkin’s role in neuroprotection, mitochondrial stress responses, and the development of Nrf2-activating compounds.
His publications span over two decades, with key contributions in Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Antioxidants & Redox Signaling. Current projects investigate Bach1 inhibition, ferroptosis mechanisms, and Nrf2/Bach1 crosstalk in neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Thomas collaborates widely, with a focus on translating basic research into clinical neurotherapeutics.
