Dr. Bobby Karimi is an Associate Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at Wilkes University, where he has worked since 2017. He previously held visiting and teaching roles at Colorado College, Clarion University, Millersville University, and the University of Pittsburgh.
- Ph.D. in Geology from University of Pittsburgh (2014)
- B.S. in Geology from University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown (2008)
As a Tectonophysicist, Dr. Karimi specializes in characterizing tectonic boundaries using GIS/RS, computational methods, pattern detection, and field/geophysical techniques. His research spans regions including the North Anatolian Fault (Turkey/Greece), Eastern North American Margin, and Bolivian Andes, with additional work on landslide mechanics and CO2 sequestration.
Dr. Karimi's publications focus on fault geometry analysis, geospatial pattern recognition, and CO2 storage modeling. These works demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches combining field geology, computational methods, and geospatial technologies to address tectonic and environmental challenges.
- Scientific Awards:
- University of Pittsburgh Elizabeth Baranger Excellence in Teaching Award (2012)
As an educator, Dr. Karimi emphasizes critical thinking, science communication, and field-based learning. He is affiliated with professional organizations including the American Geophysical Union, Geological Society of America, and American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
