Bob Rosen serves as an Instructor in the Department of Theater and Dance at Macalester College, teaching courses including Physical Approaches (THDA 230) and Acting Theory and Performance (THDA 120). A founding member of the internationally acclaimed Theatre de la Jeune Lune (1979), he co-directed the company from 1985-2005 and has created over 100 productions across acting, writing, directing, and lighting disciplines.
His educational foundation includes a diploma from Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre and advanced training at École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Rosen's artistic philosophy integrates European physical theatre traditions with contemporary performance practices, emphasizing embodied storytelling techniques.
Rosen's work spans theatrical productions like The Golem and Circus of Tales, orchestral collaborations with the Minnesota Orchestra, and original creations such as Juracán – a Puerto Rican history cantastoria debuting in 2018. His artistic output consistently bridges circus arts, mask work, and social narratives through interdisciplinary lenses.
Key recognitions include the AT&T OnStage award for The Hunchback of Notre Dame adaptation and the Playwrights’ Center McKnight Theatre Artist Fellowship. His creative leadership extends to founding Studio 206 (2008) for new work development and co-creating The Gymnasium consortium connecting arts with science and business innovation.
Rosen maintains active performance pedagogy through Lecoq Technique instruction while advancing physical theatre as both artistic practice and academic discipline through his institutional affiliations and studio initiatives.
