Bob Muir is a Senior Lecturer at Auburn University's McWhorter School of Building Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Drexel University, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Drexel University. A licensed Professional Engineer in Delaware, he brings over 33 years of industry experience in engineering and construction, alongside 15 years in academia.
His research focuses on Lean Construction methods, Integrated Project Delivery, design optimization, and leadership dynamics. Muir has extensive experience in heavy civil and industrial projects, balancing perspectives of both owners and contractors. He recently returned to academia after three years as a Resident Engineer at HDR during the pandemic.
Muir teaches undergraduate courses in Contract Documents, Structures II, and Construction Field Lab. He is actively involved in mentoring student competition teams and service-learning projects, emphasizing professional development. Prior roles include Chair of the Construction Engineering & Management Program at Virginia Tech and Program Director of Construction Management at Drexel University.
