Bob Chow is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Victoria, where he leads research on vertebrate eye development and neural differentiation. His laboratory investigates molecular mechanisms underlying retinal development, with particular focus on Pax6 gene regulation and microRNA-mediated post-transcriptional control.
Current research examines: 1) MeCP2 isoform functions in Rett syndrome; 2) MicroRNA regulatory networks targeting Pax6 3'UTR; 3) ARS2 isoform switching in mRNA decay pathways; 4) Neonatal thymic eosinophil development influenced by microbiota; 5) VSX1 mutations in corneal dystrophies. The lab employs live imaging, genetic manipulation, and molecular biology techniques to study ocular and neural systems.
Chow's work spans developmental timepoints from embryonic patterning to postnatal maturation, with publications demonstrating expertise in gene regulatory networks, ocular injury responses, and spinal cord interneuron specification.
