Blasco Franch, Daniel

Daniel Blasco Franch is an Associate Professor in the Department of Organization, Business Management and Product Design at the Faculty of Tourism, University of Girona. He is also a Senior Research Associate at the School of Tourism & Hospitality, University of Johannesburg, and an external examiner at the School of Hospitality Management and Tourism, Technological University Dublin. His work spans academic, institutional, and international networks in tourism research and education.

His research centers on tourism destinations as complex systems, focusing on organizational networks, governance, and sustainable planning—especially in border and island regions. He explores how tourism destinations can become more resilient through adaptive governance, network collaboration, and strategic innovation. His work integrates systems thinking with practical destination management.

The recent publications reflect a strong trend in understanding tourism through complex adaptive systems, sustainability, and governance. His work spans geographical, managerial, and policy-oriented dimensions, often combining qualitative and systems-based methodologies. Topics include border tourism, island resilience, heritage, and future scenarios for tourism development.

Daniel has supervised 2 completed PhDs and currently mentors 3 PhD candidates, including an Industrial PhD with the Catalan Tourism Agency. He has taught over 230 credits in undergraduate and graduate programs and coordinated the Master in Tourism Management and Planning (2021–2024). He has contributed to academic program evaluation and quality assurance at national and international levels.

He is actively involved in international academic collaboration, with institutional ties across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania, including universities in South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, USA, Canada, Mongolia, Malaysia, Russia, UK, Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, and Australia.
