Dr. Blake Mathys is an Associate Professor of Environmental Science at Ohio Dominican University (since 2018). He holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from Rutgers University (2010) and a B.S. in Biology from Ohio Northern University (2002). His research focuses on biogeography, avian introductions, and morphological evolution, with a particular interest in how insular environments drive evolutionary changes in exotic species. He has conducted fieldwork in diverse locations including Bermuda, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica.
Dr. Mathys has authored or co-authored articles on topics such as morphological divergence in island bird populations, antimicrobial resistance in wild songbirds, and influenza A virus surveillance. He teaches courses in environmental science and advises the Ohio Dominican Birding Club. His professional service includes roles in academic committees, sustainability initiatives, and peer-review for journals like Biological Invasions and Ecology.
