Bjørn Jamtveit is a Professor of Petrology at the University of Oslo (UiO) and currently serves as Vice Dean (Prodekan) of Research for the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. He has held leadership roles including Director of the Njord Centre (2018–present), Director of the Physics of Geological Processes (PGP) Centre (2006–2013), and led strategic initiatives like EarthFlows (2014–2018). His research focuses on fluid-rock interactions, metamorphism, and earthquake mechanics in the Earth's crust.

Research Interests: Dynamic transformation processes in Earth's crust, fluid-rock interactions, metamorphism far from equilibrium, and spontaneous pattern formation. He also explored organizational structures in public agencies as a hobby project.
