Research Institute for Farm Animal Biologyمعرفی
Björn Kuhla is the Director of the 'Fuel Sensing Unit' and Head of the Nutritional Biochemistry working group at the Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) in Dummerstorf, Germany. He holds a habilitation and venia legendi in Biochemistry, with a postdoctoral background spanning Bayer AG, University of Leipzig, and Case Western Reserve University. His research focuses on neuronal and metabolic control of feed intake, methane production links to diet, and metabolic adaptations to environmental heat.
Dr. Kuhla's academic career includes leadership roles such as Director of the Fuel Sensing Unit (2013–present) and Junior Research Group Leader (2009–2012). His educational background includes a PhD and Diploma in Chemistry, complemented by an apprenticeship in animal production.
His research interests are anchored in understanding feed intake regulation, mitigating methane emissions through dietary strategies, and exploring heat stress impacts on livestock. Over 150 scientific publications demonstrate his contributions to animal physiology, environmental science, and nutritional strategies for sustainable farming. Key themes in his work include rumen microbiome interactions, metabolic pathway modeling, and proteomic analyses of stress responses.
