معرفی
PD Dr. med. vet. habil. Monika Roentgen is a leading researcher at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) in Dummerstorf, Germany, where she heads the Cell Biology of Muscle Growth Working Group. Her research is focused on fundamental processes in farm animal physiology, particularly muscle development and metabolic regulation in pigs and dairy cows.
Her research interests span muscle biology, satellite cell function, magnesium homeostasis, mitochondrial energetics, and metabolic regulation in high-yielding dairy cows. She investigates how factors such as birth weight, nutrition, and genetic variants influence cellular processes in muscle and other tissues. Her work integrates molecular biology, cell culture, and physiological measurements.
The analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on myogenesis, particularly in piglets, including studies on low birth weight effects, spheroid culture, and congenital disorders like splay leg syndrome. She also explores ion transport (especially magnesium via SLC41A1), mitochondrial function, and immune-metabolic interactions in dairy cows. Her methodologies include in vitro cell models, molecular techniques, and metabolic assessments.
She has extensive collaborations with scientists such as Steffen Maak, Björn Kuhla, Harald Hammon, and Katja Stange, and her work is published in reputable journals like Cells, Frontiers in Veterinary Science, and Journal of Dairy Science.
Dr. Roentgen actively mentors and collaborates with junior researchers, as evidenced by her frequent co-authorship on publications. Her work contributes significantly to improving animal health, welfare, and production efficiency.
She is based at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology, Wilhelm-Stahl-Allee 2, 18196 Dummerstorf, and can be contacted at roentgen@fbn-dummerstorf.de.
