Björn Hofvander is an Associate Professor and University Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at Lund University, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine. He serves as the Research Group Leader for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and leads the Unit for Clinical Research on Acting Out Behaviors and Developmental Psychopathology. His primary research focuses on understanding aggressive antisocial behavior (AAB) across the lifespan, integrating forensic psychiatry with developmental psychopathology, epidemiology, and cognitive neuroscience.
His work addresses how AAB interacts with mental health, neurocognition, and somatic health, emphasizing longitudinal studies from childhood to adulthood. Hofvander has supervised five doctoral students and contributed to projects such as 'Maladaptive Anger in Adolescents' and 'Break the Vicious Circles – Outcomes in Residential Youth Care'.
Recent publications highlight topics like violent offenders' mental health trajectories, substance use disorder mortality rates, and ethical considerations in criminal justice systems. He actively collaborates internationally and contributes to policy through expert statements like the 2024 SOU report on societal protection and mental health ethics.
