Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi serves as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the African Leadership Centre, King's College London, within the School of Global Affairs (Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy). A prominent feminist thinker and activist, she has dedicated her career to advancing women's leadership and rights across Africa through policy advocacy, grassroots empowerment, and social inclusion initiatives.
Her research centers on feminist activism and women's leadership development, emphasizing practical applications in African contexts. She has designed and implemented programs that bridge policy advocacy with community engagement, driving legislative changes for women's rights while addressing intersectional challenges of gender, politics, and social transformation.
Her publications—including influential books like Loud Whispers (2017) and Speaking for Myself (2013)—explore African feminist narratives through lenses of voice, power, and collective action. These works synthesize personal and political dimensions of activism, highlighting systemic barriers and innovative strategies for social change.
Adeleye-Fayemi founded Akina Mama wa Afrika (1991-2001), establishing the African Women’s Leadership Institute that trained over 6,000 leaders, and co-founded the African Women's Development Fund (2001-2010), pioneering Africa-wide grant-making for women's rights. She currently leads Amandla Consulting and the digital platform Abovewhispers.com while serving as UN Women Nigeria Senior Consultant, mobilizing resources and networks for women's empowerment.
