Birgitta A.R. Schmidt

Birgitta A.R. Schmidt, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and serves as the Director of Dermatopathology in the Department of Pathology at Boston Children's Hospital. Her clinical expertise spans pediatric dermatopathology, melanoma diagnosis, and molecular analysis of skin tumors.

Her research includes genomic comparisons of melanoma and Spitz tumors, inflammatory skin disease management, and molecular mechanisms in pediatric dermatology. Her publications address rare conditions like Sweet syndrome, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, and treatment complications in autoimmune skin diseases.

Recent work highlights T cell subset analysis in drug reactions, molecular diagnostics for vascular anomalies, and therapeutic applications of biologics like dupilumab. Her affiliations include collaborations with Boston Children's Hospital's Pulmonary Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, and Dermatology divisions.
