Dr. Birgit Hoinle is a Postdoc Researcher at the University of Hohenheim’s Department of Societal Transition and Agriculture, within the Institute of Social Sciences in Agriculture. Her work focuses on food justice, feminist urban political ecology, and sustainable food systems. Previously, she held roles at the University of Tübingen’s IZEW Center and conducted field research in Colombia, analyzing spatial empowerment in urban agriculture. She currently serves as spokesperson for the Food Policy Council Ernährungsrat Region Tübingen-Rottenburg and is a global learning consultant with EPiZ Reutlingen.
- Education: PhD in Integrative Geography (University of Hamburg, 2020), funded by the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation.
- Key Research: Decolonial perspectives, participatory action research, and sustainable public food procurement.
Her research integrates feminist theories and decolonial frameworks to address socioecological inequalities in food systems. Recent work examines policy measures for just school meals and biodiversity promotion in public catering. She has published extensively on urban agroecology, food sovereignty, and spatial empowerment in Latin America.
Professionally, she coordinates transdisciplinary projects linking universities with non-academic partners to advance sustainability education. Her contributions include designing curricula for ethical food systems and advocating for fair trade initiatives.
