Binod Balakrishnan

Binod Balakrishnan, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin, specializing in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. He leads the Division of Critical Care and is affiliated with Children’s Wisconsin Hospital. His clinical and research focus centers on neurocritical care, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and outcomes after pediatric cardiac arrest. Dr. Balakrishnan holds board certifications in General Pediatrics and Critical Care Medicine, with additional training in Patient Safety and Quality Improvement.

Research Interests:

Dr. Balakrishnan’s research explores early neuroprognostication tools, biomarker-driven outcomes prediction after cardiac arrest, and advanced monitoring techniques like near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). He leads multicenter trials including the Personalizing Outcomes After Child Cardiac Arrest (POCCA) study and the Pediatric Influence of Cooling duration on Efficacy in Cardiac Arrest Patients (P-ICECAP) trial. His work bridges clinical practice with translational research to improve neurologic outcomes in critically ill children.
