Binitha V Thampi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai. She specializes in Gender and Development studies, focusing on intersections of gender, labor, migration, and governance. Her research examines neoliberalism’s impact on gender dynamics and spatial transformations in India.
Her career includes a Fulbright Visiting Scholar position (2016-2017) at Rutgers University and prior roles as an Assistant Professor (2010-2016) and Research Associate at the University of Sheffield (2008-2010). She has authored/co-authored influential works such as New Lamps for Old: Gender Paradoxes of Political Decentralization in Kerala (2012) and published widely in journals like Women’s Studies International Forum and Environment and Planning A.
