Bindi Bennett is a K/Gamilaroi woman and Professorial Research Fellow at Federation University’s National Centre for Reconciliation, Truth, and Justice. Her work focuses on social justice, Indigenous knowledge systems, and cultural responsiveness in social work education. She holds a PhD from Australian Catholic University and has pioneered initiatives including the Continuous Improvement Cultural Responsiveness Tools (CICRT) and research on Indigenous disaster practices.
Key achievements include the 2023 ARC College of Experts appointment, 2019 Vice-Chancellor’s Award, and leading major grants like the $5M MRFF Climate Resilience project (2024). She has authored over 100 publications, including the 2025 Routledge Handbook of Social Work and Disaster Practice and edited volumes on anti-oppressive practice and Indigenous research methodologies.
Prof Bennett’s research emphasizes decolonizing academia, addressing systemic racism, and advocating for Indigenous knowledge systems. Her work spans trauma-informed education, human-animal bond interventions, and climate resilience strategies, reflecting her commitment to intersectional and culturally grounded solutions.
